"Assume that all power tools are trying to kill you, and all hand tools are blood-seeking opportunists" Mike T. 2023
This machine uses a powerful motor to spin an exposed blade. patterns
planers are capable of causing life-changing injuries which occur in a fraction of a second. You are responsible for ensuring your own safety; do not operate this machine if you do not feel capable of doing so safely. Trainers will always be happy to assist you if you need it, and would much rather be involved before problems occur, than after.
- Only those who have been trained by an approved trainer, and have signed a usage agreement, are permitted to operate the machine.
- Do not process pallet wood, scaffolding boards, or any dirty boards.
- The blades are expensive to get resharpened, and these boards will dull them much faster than clean wood.
- Keep your hands well away from the blades.
- Remove or tuck-in any loose items of clothing, so that they do not catch the bladed.
- Always wear safety glasses and hearing protection while operating the machine.
- Never plane anything without using the bridge guard.
- Always be vigilant about your balance and the position of your limbs while the blades are spinning.
- Always use the dust-extractor when using this machine.
- Never pull a workpiece back across the blades while the blades are spinning.
- Never reach over the blades while they are spinning.
- This machine is intended for cutting wood only.
- Motor
- 2.2kw (3hp)
- 415V 3 phase
- No-load blade speed: ?RPM
- Thicknessing feed rate: ?m/min
- Blades
- 3 knives on drum
- 310mm long
- Capacity
- Planing width: 310mm
- Thicknessing width: 310mm
- Thicknessing height: 230mm
- Table length: ?mm
- 150mm dust extraction port
- The blades are expensive to get resharpened, so please do not process pallet wood, scaffolding boards, or any dirty boards.
- This machine is very heavy, so be careful when moving it.
- When planing (jointing), ensure that the thicknessing table is raised up as high as it will go, to keep the dust collection shroud in place.
- Fence position adjusted by:
- Releasing the 2 black knobs on back of the yellow plate
- Moving the fence to the desired position
- Retightening the 2 black knobs
- Fence angle adjusted by:
- Releasing the 2 black knobs on the back of the fence
- Moving the fence to the desired angle
- Retightening the 2 black knobs
- The fence is adjusted to always return to perfectly square to the bed
- Guard adjusted by:
- Knob on top for width
- Knob on side for height
- Planer (jointer) depth of cut adusted by
- Releasing the locking lever at the back-right of the machine
- Turning the knob on front-right of machine
- Retightening the locking lever
- Set the fence
- Set the guard
- Set the depth of cut
- Push board across from right to left
- Run through the cut without the motor spinning first, to check everything is clear and safe
- Use a push stick if planing small boards
- Thicknesser depth of cut adjusted by:
- Releasing the locking lever on the left side of the machine
- Turning the hand wheel
- 1 turn is 4mm depth change
- Retightening the locking lever
- Set the depth of cut
- Push the board gently onto the bed, from the left side of the machine
- The rollers will grab the board, and pull it through the cutter
- Check that there is sufficient space on both ends of machine before starting
- Turn power off
- Release the locking lever on each wing
- Carefully raise each wing
- Be careful, they are very heavy
- Be careful not to crush your fingers between the outfeed wing handle, and the dust collection shroud
- Flip the dust collection shroud over to the top of the blades
- Move the power-feed lever to the UP position
- Turn power on
- Turn power off
- Move the power-feed lever to the DOWN position
- Flip the dust collection shroud over to below the blades
- Carefully swing each wing down
- Be careful, they are very heavy
- There may be a small amount of resistance at the end of the outfeed wing's travel
- Tighten the locking lever on each wing
- Ensure that the thicknessing table is raised up as high as it will go, to keep the dust collection shroud in place
- Turn power on
Users should not be changing knives themselves. Notify the room lead when the knives need replacing, and they will swap them out.
